When I started working 24 years ago I too felt the churning stomach, clammy hands and sweating brow when I went to business networking events. For many years every time I went to a networking event I felt like I was back at the Junior High dance. Who would believe this from a woman who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree is Psychology AND worked in such places as multiple prisons, hospitals, a mortuary/crematorium and an insane asylum?

Having lived in seven different states in four different sections of the US I thought I knew how to network! How was I supposed to know that introducing myself, shaking hands and exchanging business cards was NOT business networking!

Just four years ago I found two shoe boxes full of business cards from people I didn’t remember, the result of attending hundreds of networking events and not knowing HOW TO BUSINESS NETWORK. Yes I did call the very few I did remember just to see if they were still alive.

Thanks to LOTS of trial and error, participation in several networking organizations, founding and managing the Kansas City eWomenNetwork Chapter and meeting Anne Baber, co-author of Make Your Contacts Count, I began learning process of EFFECTIVE BUSINESS NETWORKING. Having studied many books on networking and been coached by Anne and her co-author sister Lynne Waymon I have learned the, not-so-well-kept, secrets to successful business networking!

These “secrets” resounded with me so deeply that I now teach them to others as a certified Contacts Count presenter. If I can go from “glad-handing, working a room, and schmoozing” to really developing dynamic relationships from business networking events SO CAN YOU!
